We all know the story of Schindler's list. But I've heard of others who also helped large numbers of people by smuggling them out, giving visas, etc . .
They are called the Righteous Among Nations by Yad VaShem. Each of their stories, and the stories of those they saved, is unique; the only common demoninator amongst them is their ultimate humanity and bravery.
Raoul Wallenberg is probably the most famous but as /u/proindrakenzol said, the Righteous Among Nations is the place to look.
