Certainly not - in fact, in some cases they provided assistance to settlers as they could see they were clearly lacking basic knowledge in how to survive in the new world. For instance, they taught settlers in New France how to use local conifers to brew a tea to fight scurvy. Not at all a "divine awe" scenario.
