We've all heard about how hardcore modern military training is(I.e. Full Metal Jacket), but what did the training of Napoleonic-era soldiers include? I've also heard that nobles with enough money could raise their own regiments - did they have to undergo some kind of officership training, or was it expected that all gentlemen could lead men into battles and understand tactics?
I have written about this on this question and will be willing to follow up on anything you need.
Finally, nobility would not raise regiments in the French or British armies, which were more professional and nationalized but in the Austrian and Prussian armies, regiments were raised by nobles or by region.
