Is this a homework question? It says in our rules: Our users aren't here to do your homework for you, but they might be willing to help. Remember: AskHistorians helps those who help themselves. Don't just give us your essay/assignment topic and ask us for ideas. Do some research of your own, then come to us with questions about what you've learned. This is explained further in this [META] thread. You can also consider asking the helpful people at /r/HomeworkHelp.
So as Im sure youre aware, we cant write your paper for you. But many of us are willing to point you in the right direction and help you hone your ideas into something.
So, Ill ask you to elaborate on your reasons a little bit. Why would you say that trench warfare is significant? What historical examples could you point to to prove your point?
Also, consider some of these ideas:
Is gas warfare important? How would that effect soldiers on the battlefield, in the trenches, and just trying to survive? Does gas have anything to do with trench warfare at all?
And what of tanks, planes, better artillery, machine guns, and the like? How did technology create, shape, then ultimate defeat trench warfare? How did it come about, and how did technology end it (if technology even had an effect at all!)?
If youd like to talk out some of these questions, and your response to them, Id be happy to! But also remember that you cant just copy-and-paste our discussion into a word document and call it done, youve still got to write the thing yourself.
