Were there any violent Jainist sects?

by hameleona

I'm quite the cynical person, and I find it hard to believe, that there never was a sect, that decided to pacify the people by force, so I come here and ask? :)

Since two of the core beliefs in Jainism is non violence(ahmsã) and Karma, I'll talk about them.

In Jainism karma is a matter, it something that ever person can and most likely will generate either by accident of by a conscious action, but unlike Buddhism where its the conscious action that generate bad karma, in Jainism all karma is bad since it clings to your soul(a imagery of it is that your soul is gold and karma is what makes it unpure).

Considering that one of the core beliefs in Jainism is non violence(ahmsã) and that killing no matter the reason is evil and will generate karma and that all karma is bad and hard to erase and most definitely result in a harder rebirth and more rebirths.

You might think about it like this, if killing a fly or just hurt it(violence)(fly and insects have 4 senses and are "lesser" then humans and Gods who have 5) by accident is bad and will generate karma and karma is a matter that clings and taint your soul and keeps you from being free from the cycle of rebirth, how would killing a person effect you? It would ground you to the world for several life's.

The major difficulty in Jainism is to erase karma, its impossible for a women(who's best hope is to become a nun and in the next life be reborn as a man who becomes a monk), it is so hard that it is accepted that only monks are able to erase karma efficiently. There are ways to less generating karma like helping monks with there daily chores like preparing food or helping and donating to the temples(Jains tend to be rich, banking and jewelry).

My conclusion, since killing and violence would go so drastic against the beliefs of the Jains, they wouldn't be considered Jain anymore.

I'm sorry that it didn't answer you question, but I thought I would just clear up that killing no matter why or violence would go against the core principles of Jainism.
