Reasons why the United States potentially could have joined the Central Powers in World War 1?

I remember reading somewhere that there was a chance the USA almost joined the Central Powers in World War 1, however I am not sure what the reasoning was behind it.

I'm not familiar with that premise. Could you state where you read it. There was some talk when Teddy Roosevelt rapidly expanded the US Navy that the British would not be happy but nothing really came of it.
