Just left me thinking, why wasn't there too much "celebration of victory" in the west over communism?, was it because the cold war didn't really ended? (i.e. post-USSR Russia, China), or was the Cold War just political, not really on the minds of citizens? (although there were fucktons of propaganda during the Red Scare)
I'm not sure what you mean by 'the west' but I shall assume that you mean America, because it was celebrated in Europe. Keep in mind that some of the biggest events towards the end of the Cold War happened in Europe (Fall of the Berlin Wall, dissolution of Czechoslovakia, dissolution of the USSR, end of Communism in USSR, Poland, Romania etc).
It was a huge point in German history when the Berlin Wall was taken down, the idea that there was no celebration is preposterous. There are many images showing the [celebrations] (http://www.history.com/s3static/video-thumbnails/AETN-History_VMS/21/147/History_Opening_of_Berlin_Wall_Speech_SF_still_624x352.jpg) that went on in Berlin during the wall's dismantling.
Similarly in countries that were previously Communist there were huge demonstrations against their governments, like this one of [Bucharest, Romania] (http://media.roarmag.org/2013/11/Bucharest-Romania-December-1989Demonstrators-gather-in-front-of-the-headquarters-of-the-Romanian-Communist-party-during-the-revolution-of-1989.-Communist-dictator-Nicolae-Ceausescu-was-toppled-from-power-and-with-his-wife-Elena.jpg) in 1989. Here is another image from Prague of the [Velvet Revolution] (http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2009/11/08/travel/08headsupspan-1/articleLarge.jpg) a peaceful protest that led to the end of Communism and the dissolution of Czechoslovakia.
I can't speak for America, but I'd imagine that we do not see scenes of celebration in the same way because for America there was not one single day that they could commemorate as the end of the Cold War in the same way that they could with WW1 or WW2.
I was in middle school at the time in the U.S. and it was a big deal. News outlets were all over it. Check out David Hasselhoff singing on top of the Berlin Wall on youtube.
