I'm just wondering about the history of the internet. Were there any women involved in any significant way in the internet's development? How about groups of women developers or programmers? Or, people/groups of colour that played a significant role?
From my understanding, much of the internet's history seems to concern white male programmers working in America or the UK at the time - were there any other significant parties in the internet's development?

OP, this sub's 20-year-rule may be more restrictive than you'd like, given that (I believe) the internet only really "took off" in the mid-90s. In that case, you might consider x-posting to /r/AskScience or another technology sub
