Not a complete answer but equalizing has to do with strengthening or lowering frequencies of a sound signal in order to balance the received audio image. The bars you see represent different frequencies from high to low. The height of the bars is the strength of the signal. Its an visualization used in mixing audio to determine how the frequencies are played depending on each other, in order to balance it.

The display, common on home sound systems, of a series of real-time bars showing amplitude of sound across various frequencies is called a spectrogram. However, it's also sometimes referred to (incorrectly) as a graphical equaliser. A graphical equaliser is really an analogue electronic system for setting the amplitude of each portion of frequencies passed through - they use side-by-side sliders and the buttons of the slider therefore appear as if points in a graph (hence "graphical") showing how the sound is being equalised (adjusted to get a balance of frequencies passed through each of a number of bandpass filters).
