Is the concept of racism really so knew?

by [deleted]

I was really curious about the history of racism, and ended up finding some info on "anti-racism." On Wikipedia and other sights, the only information I can find on anti-racism and awareness about racism covers the last 500 years. I feel like ethnicity is less likely to correlate with nationality or life-style, but I still think it's surprising that the concept should be so young.

Does the concept of racism really only go back that far? If so, is there a good explanation for that?
