After the Soviets unexpected loss to the Americans in the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, how were they (the Soviets) treated when they returned home to the USSR? Were they ridiculed and ostracized? Did they lose their spots on the team? Or was the public more understanding? Did Leonid Brezhnev comment on the matter at all?

Also, just as an aside, this incident is touched on in the recent documentary film Red Army (2014 USA dir: Gabe Polsky), which gives an overview of the Red Army & Soviet national teams, largely through the lens of the career of Slava Fetisov.
