History is not a person, therefore can't treat people as good or bad.

However there is always a desire for people to fit persons like Rommel into the Hero narrative. We can't without a doubt say what he would have done in a leadership position after a succesful coup. Would he support a military dictatorship after the "failure of Weimar" or be a democrat and create an "alternative-history West-Germany" with territory intact and a resentment for war and a free-market with social policies?

I'm from Germany and my subjective experience of mainstream media and politics is that they don't really question him in that aspect. A note however is that the Wehrmacht is seen as gernerally "Nazi-free". Thing is that Wehrmacht soldiers are more described as soldiers under Hitler, not as Nazi soldiers.
