I've read that the Romans adopted some changes, such as the adding of crossbars to their helmets, in order to counter the strength of the Dacian falx. How true is this?
I've also read this everywhere including in The Complete Roman Army.

I wonder if our Rome or Armor-focused historians think this is a good summary of manica use. How do reenactor sites usually fare?
Some evidence suggests the Manica was adopted against the falxmen. Trajan's column, which represents that campaign, notably is one of the few sources for imagery of use. The link reports sources which seem to create a vaugeness around the use of manica in the army.
