There is evidence from pottery fragments that a fermented drink that was made from hawthorn berries, grapes, honey and rice was being made in the village of Jiahu in Northern China from c.7000-6600BCE.

The result would have been a drink that was somewhere in the middle between wine and beer. In fact a US brewery called Dogfish Head Brewery attempted to recreate the drink back in 2009.
