EDIT: I mean North Africa from around the beginning of Egypt to the time of Mansa Musa. Did these two cultures exchange ideas and what did African societies influence on say the Greeks, Romans, or any medieval societies?

Jesus there are some terrible answers here, I'm just going to do a little overview until someone will eventually give a better answer.
Without getting into the great influence of the ancient Egyptians, the influence of Ptolemy or even the enormous importance Augustine of Hippo and his Confessions, North Africans were important in transferring Arabic and classical intellectual works. Constantine the African is a great example. A graduate of Carthage, he moved to Italy as a merchant. When a wealthy man got sick he was awestruck at the ignorance of the Italian doctors and felt that he had a duty (or he saw an opportunity to make some cash) to bring classical and Arabic knowledge to Italy. He became a Benedictine monk and translated the works of Razes Ali Ibn Massaouia Baghdad, Ibn Imran, Ibn Suleiman, and Ibn Al-Jazzar into Latin. This book became the standard medical textbook for the Europeans from the middle ages all the way up to the mid 1600's (almost 500 years).
