As for Japan, the effects of the war had been detrimental on the local Japanese population. During the ending years of the war, the Japanese people faced brutal hardships like starvation, widespread death, oil and other mineral shortages, having their cities burned to the ground, or in the case of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, their cities just being bombed off the map. After the war, the country faced even more hardship with food shortages being common. These hardships, combined with the dawning realization of the atrocities of the Japanese Empire, and the pacifist constitution written by the US firmly set Japan as a pacifist country.
