I could really use a bit of help in finding a book on this subject. Google hasn't turned much up for me yet. Also helpful would be the role that railroad tycoons, and the US government played to facilitate American expansion into Mexico as well. Thanks for the help!
Will you be willing to read in Spanish? I really encourage you to look at the work of Sandra Kuntz Ficker, she has written a lot about the beginnings of railroad companies in Mexico during the Porfiriato. Also, she has done a lot of work on economic history of mexico during the Porfiriato, revolutionary times, and early-post revolution which is the time period of your interest.
