Civil Life means they just enlisted. They weren't already in the army. Depending on how you did a search there is also a collection of records for the men who were already enlisted. The Film Reel Number is the record number for the entry in the Archives. It has nothing to do with the actual content of the record. It is a modern entry, think of it like the call number on a library book.
