I was talking to a friend recently and we got on the topic of atomic bombs and I brought up the bombing of Japan and how it minimized casualties in the long run, but he and my other friend there both told me that was just propaganda by the US and that a ground invasion would not have been as detrimental as people have been led to believe...they continued by saying that the US would have nuked Japan either way (whether it would reduce casualties or not) in order to showcase their power...can anyone shed light on this?
hi! not discouraging other responses, or anyone linking to one of the many previous posts on this, but there was a comment addressing this just a few hours ago - see /u/jschooltiger here
