I've never been interested in studying history before, but since the start of this year I've just had this strong desire to learn and I'm sturggling finding good places to get information (I meen seriously I have no idea were to begin and it must sound silly to you reading this). I have a couple of books on ancient history and have a vague idea on the timeline of the modern world but I remember next to nothing from History lessons from school and whenever I search topics I only get as far as Wikipedia and websites made for teaching young children.
WWII is especially interseting to me at the moment and if somebody here could point me in the right direction for learning as much as I can on the subject it would be really appreciated.
If you're looking for documentaries, The World at War is a very comprehensive documentary about WW2. It's narrated by Lawrence Olivier and it was made in the early seventies so it features a lot of great interviews with people who lived during the time period who were actively involved in the war.
If you're interested in the Eastern Front, the Soviet Storm documentary series (search it on YouTube) is very good.
Here's a few books in case you're interested in the war as seen from an Italian point of view:
Mario Rigoni Stern's The Sergeant in the Snow, as well as
Giulio Bedeschi's Centomila Gavette di Ghiaccio - both recall the authors' survival on the Russian front.
Paolo Caccia Dominioni's Alamein 1933–1962: An Italian Story
J.J. Sadkovich's The Italian Navy in WW2 gives a balanced overlook on a relatively-obscure topic.
Is there a particular aspect of the War you're interested in? Or are you looking for a solid overview?
