Prior to genetic exchange with the Old World continents, what were the variations in appearance between the many peoples of North and South America?

Usually the pre-genetic-exchange-with-the-old-world North and South Americans are all depicted similarly, but I assume this is not accurate. Were any peoples known for certain eye colors, different hair textures or colors, facial hair, tallness or shortness, lighter or darker skin tones, or other physical appearance differences compared to their neighbors or peoples much further away?
