It may well have made it worse, but to my knowledge anti-Semitism is an ancient prejudice. Jews have been persecuted for millennia- the Romans, the Crusades, the Nazis, just to name the most famous. Without going into too much detail, the Arab-Jewish conflict is one which runs deep in the veins of history, and Hitler in the Middle East was probably only a very small fragment of the anti-Semitism there.
