I've seen him called bisexual in a lot of places and even exclusively gay in others but the most common citation I see is a couple of sources that say he "loved Hephaestion above all others." To me, this feels like a case of wishful thinking. My (very basic) understanding of ancient Greek homosexuality is that it wasn't really related to sexual orientation at all. Is there any firm evidence to suggest that Alexander was bisexual in our contemporary sense, rather than in the ancient Greek sense? Is there a general agreement in the academic community one way or the other?
