The Book of Enoch holds central importance to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. This community is also juxtapose to a Jewish commuity: Beta Israel. Beta Israel is the sect that views the Book of Enoch highly, although the edition they use is the Ethiopian edition. This book and the other holy books that they consider sacred are all in the Ge'ez language, a South Arabian isolate that blended with local languages to create the state language of Ethiopia today, Amharic. This Beta Israel group has since migrated to Israel following the communist take over of Ethiopia. The operation to evacuate Jews to Israel was done by Israel's own air force, and today the majority of Beta Israel members are found there, ethnically resembling the Ethiopian Christians who also revere this book.
