I have started watching Band of Brothers and cannot stop wondering what the thin strap pictured here is for (the tiny leather one that goes across the top of his helmet). It looks adjustable, but I have only seen it wrapped across the top of the helmet, and if I recall correctly there is already a chinstrap on these helmets. What exactly is this thing?
The helmet has a liner, this is the chin strap on the liner. They would put it on the outside to hold it in place.
