I have focused more on the black market which emerged in Tokyo during the post war period, but I might be able to answer your question. Following the dropping of the atomic bomb on both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Japanese emperor had no choice but to surrender. Hirohito actually gave a radio address called "The Jewel Voice Broadcast" in which he implored the Japanese people to "endure the unendurable and suffer what is unsufferable." This broadcast shocked the Japanese people as, for years, they were told that Japan was winning the war.

Macarthur was in charge of the military occupation of Japan, and he ordered that the soldiers involved in the occupation were not to have fought in any of the pacific campaigns. This helped to alleviate any sort of hatred for the Japanese people that the American G.I.'s might have. Much of the edicts passed during the occupation period were actually passed by the Japanese government. The disarmament clause in the Japanese constitution was actually created by the Japanese prime minister. Unlike in Germany during the post war period, the Japanese government was retained throughout the entire occupation. The military occupation force was used mostly to supervise the distribution of massive stores of food and medical supplies throughout the country.

Another large reason for the lack of a military insurgency could be both the liberalization of Japan, as well as a state of lethargy which struck the Japanese people following the war. During the occupation, the United States broke up many of the zaibatsu organizations and attempted to liberalize many areas of Japanese life. Large amounts of land were sold off at minimal prices to farmers. Japanese women gained the right to vote in 1947 and various trade and labor acts were passed which increased the rights of workers. A lethargy was also present in the post war period of Japan. Many citizens had a "what can you do about it" attitude which can be pointed to as one of the reasons there was no insurgency.

side note: you can still see the effects of the American occupation in Tokyo. Akihabara had a large black market in electronics during the occupation, and that has led it to becoming what is known as "Akihabara Electric Town" today. Roppongi was the occupied by American and Allied forces during the occupation, and this led to a large area which catered to expats.
