the main regions are neo-confusianism(with heaven and ancestor worship), taoism (with local folk gods) and chinese buddhism. They compliement each other and usually refered as 三教合一. Other religions are toleranted and somes revered as long as they don't challenge existing authority. (for example mosques are refered to as 寺， which originally is level of government. (the only other religion like this buddhism in china) Money used to renervate the grand mosque came fromt the government. a treatment only recieved by the 3 main religion. Christian are toleranted. Xu Guanqu, a convertedcatholic, served as grand secratary (equivalent to prime minister).
