The guillotine was used prior to, during, and after the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte. It isn't really associated with his rule, but it was still one of many forms of execution at the time. It's popularization is mostly from the French Revolution, but that was not the end of its use by any means. The Nazi's actually used it as a form of execution.
