I know this may seem like a simplistic question to many, but I was looking for an as academic response as possible without all the usual 'atheism .vs. theology' that tends to cloud any online discourse surrounding this topic. Consider me neutral on that whole side of things, as I want to focus on facts.

It's just that aspects of the Bible, such as the flood myth, were fairly common tropes throughout Mesopotamia. Why is it then that the Bible, along with the Koran, managed to 'hit a home-run' (so to speak) and establish much of the mainstream religion as we know it that was to follow right up till the present?
