I went and did an internship in Angers, France (not history related) stayed for a year, then went to Spain, and Morocco to work. Then, I went back to the US and went to grad school in political science. I'm a professor of political science now. If you are looking for advice my personal opinion is to take a year, intern, read up on what you wanna specialize in, and then apply to PHD programs. Avoid un funded masters if you can. The main thing you want to do is continually be reading and writing in the field you want to specialize in, even if you are not looking to get published.

Immediately started grad school, started working part-time at a museum and have been promoted up to a full time, salaried position.

I worked in construction, then i went to grad school.

I took 6 weeks and drove around the U.S. and Canada. We put 10,000 miles on my girlfriend's car. I eventually went to grad school.

Good question! I had three part-time retail jobs in order to pay the bills. After about four months I got a government job, which I kept until I went to graduate school the following year. Oddly enough, I had actually worked as a professional historian (historic preservation consultant) the summer between my junior and senior years, but I couldn't find similar work after I actually had my degree in hand.

Took my first true vacation in a decade, worked out a lot... started looking for work in August, but wound up sinking into a bottomless pit of depression instead. Good times.

Drink and apply to grad school

I graduated in December. So far, I've applied at numerous part-time jobs and full-time careers (got 2 interviews for part-time, not a peep from full time), and various law schools. It's looking like law school in September.
