I was wondering because it doesn't seem to be the right tool for the job.
Originally, pasta was eaten without sauce and with the hands. After the introduction of tomatoes, various sauces were devised. In any case, forks have existed since the Iron Age, so the invention of pasta sauce wasn't really an issue.
That being said, the Fork is absolutely the right tool for the job. You're supposed to twist it in the spaghetti, wrapping them around the fork, and then eating it. Simple.
