Was there a titled hereditary aristocracy in what is now the US? E.g. was there a count of Jamestown or Duke of Virginia? If not, why not?

My understanding is that a good amount of American colonies were self-governed to a point. Jamestown, for example, was chartered to a company by GB. The courts of law, mayors, and churches were the administrators. No need for a count/majority land owner.
