This little beastie was part of Qin Shi Huang's armament, which would place it in the middle of the 3rd century BCE. I was under the impression that there wasn't meaningful communication between Rome and China before the 2nd century CE.

Does this indicate that the two weapons were developed independently, or was there prior contact between the cultures I don't know about?
