Hello! I am writing a research paper on the supporters of Prohibition for one of my classes, but with all the information that is available to me its difficult to find what is reliable and what is not. I was hoping that maybe someone could point me in a good direction, or even suggest some good books, articles, edited volumes, etc. I hope to hear from someone soon!
In general I recommend looking through the bibliography/sources cited sections of the wiki article on a given subject; even if the article may be of questionable quality, there's usually some pretty good material to find in those sections to give you ideas.
I have a special interest in Virginia history, but a couple of sources might be worth checking out:
Encyclopedia Virginia's article on the Bishop James Cannon, Jr., who led the Anti-Saloon League of Virginia. If I were you I'd only use them as a quick reference, but should you need to use them, EV is an academic source.
Virginius Dabney's biography of Bishop Cannon, Dry Messiah, is available to read on Hathi Trust. It requires a log-in, but I think registration is open to the public through the University of Michigan.
As always, check your local libraries! You never know what they may have, and if they don't have it then you could likely get materials through Inter-Library Loan. If you're at a college/university, same thing, though there should be a decent enough selection there as is. (At least, one would hope!)
