You're going to need to be a lot more specific about what you are asking in order to get a decent answer here.

What do you mean by "suppression of a population"? What do you mean by "the societal bubble bursting"? What do you mean by "significant progress being made"?

The slaves in Saint-Domingue successfully rebelled against French control in the Haitian revolution from 1791-1804. It is the only slave revolt that led to the founding of a state - the Republic of Haiti - is generally considered the most successful slave rebellion ever. Read the classic work The Black Jacobins by CLR James for a complete rundown of the revolt.

Unfortunately, this example may not entirely meet your requirement of social progress because Haitian society remained a two-caste system following the expulsion of the French, and Haiti still had to repay France for the losses to slaveowners...which didn't happen until 1947.
