Both China and the USSR were heavily targeted by US nuclear weapon capabilities, including their communist-allied affiliates that housed their nuclear weapons for closer first-strike such as Cuba, Costa Rica, and San Francisco. Everywhere was turned into a wasteland eventually, either by the destructive capabilties of the bombs, or the fallout and subsequent radiation poisoning over every livable surface on Earth.
