What was it like being a pioneer in Bikini Bottom?

Did they really ride those babies for miles?

Unfortunately, due to a tragic fire at the Bikini Bottom Historical Society a few years ago, much of the records of the pioneers of the area has been lost. We may never know.

Very little of the original settlement of Bikini Bottom is known to us to day, and confounding the issue is that most of what we think we know today is handed down to us through oral histories of questionable veracity. One of the most likely cultural traits of the pioneers, as relayed by one Mr. Square pants, is the use of boulders for personal transportation. Although such a statement seems tenuous, Mr. Squarepant's foray into experimental archeology did indeed reveal that one could in fact "ride these babies for miles." Another story, possibly originating from the pioneer era, as told by one Mr. Star, relates the story of one particularly unattractive barnacle, a barnacle so ugly as to kill anyone and everyone around it. Archeological digs, however, have been unable to find any evidence of a population collapse of this magnitude and this story may simply be a fanciful invention of Bikini Bottom's denizens. Unfortunately, as with most early subsurface migration we may never know, evidence is scarce and records even more so.
