I was told I should ask this as a new question instead of piggybacking on this thread. For those that don't want to delve into the always depressing topic of the treatment of the unfortunates that could touch saidin during the Third Age, the question is in its entirety here.
I know this is a strange follow up question based off of the Breaking and the Tower, but would you mind answering something that I don't have the sources for? I assume you have access to some of the Depositories at the Tower, I rarely have the time to return there and I am mostly using the Library at the Academy of the Rose, but there is nothing here about what the first Amyrlins wore as their symbols before the forming of the Ajahs. I know that the source material might have been destroyed during the initial raid at the start of Tarmon Gai'don that effected the city, but you would think the Queen would have had more copies sent from the Tower.
I saw several scholars that were experts on the Breaking posting earlier. Perhaps /u/edXcitizen87539319 or /u/sukritact or /u/mistborn might know the answer.
Not much is clear from this period, but I'll try to give an overview of what is known.
During the Breaking of the World the surviving (female) Aes Sedai dispersed and formed informal affiliations. In or about 47 AB (After Breaking) the Aes Sedai decided to build a new city as the center of their power. A letter surviving from this period mentions 12 Aes Sedai by name and an unspecified number of others each sitting for her Ajah. This means that at this time there were many more Ajahs; it is possible that the informal affiliations were called 'ajah' in this time and the permanent Ajahs we now know only formed later.
The conference which decided to build a city as a center of their power may well have been a conference with the goal of re-unifying the Aes Sedai. Tar Valon and the White Tower took over a century to be built (completed early in the third century AB), but the term 'White Tower' was already in use by 97 AB. The first Amyrlin Seat was Elisane Tishar, but nothing is known of her symbols. What is known is that she had seven close advisors, which may be linked to the seven permanent Ajahs which were formed. Those Ajahs are known to have formed within a hundred years of the establishment of the White Tower. So even though the seven-striped stole cannot have gone all the way back to the Breaking of the World, it could come from relatively soon (a couple of centuries) after it.
