This is one of this subreddit's frequently asked questions. There's no shame in asking it anyway but I suggest you check there first before you post another question.

In any case, most modern historians agree that it is a myth that technological progress made by the romans was completely reset during the Dark Ages.

It all depends on what your definition of progress is, but there is evidence of the spread of old and new technological inventions. An example of this is the steady replacement of the two-field system, which was favored amongst European peasants, by the three-field system. Agricultural production was growing during the Early Middle Ages, in part due to the introduction of new technologies in farming. We must however also consider deurbanization after the fall of Rome as factor in increased agricultural production.

Deurbanization also partially explains why we see that some technologies that would be useful in urban centers, such as the aquaducts or urban sewers, fell into disuse. These inventions were not forgotten however. A reason for the lack of re-use of these techniques once urban centers began to grow again (around 1000) was the fact that the new political leaders in Europe simply did not have the means to organise labor on such a scale that large public works could be built. Whilst the Roman empire generally had political stability in a massive beaurocratic organisation, well-filled coffers, a growing economy and a massive pool of cheap laborers, many kings of Early Medieval Europe had no or only limited access to such resources.

Your question to /u/talondearg about social acceptance is quite vague. Social acceptance of whom? or what? Social acceptance within a society changes very, very often.
