What impact did Marx's views on religion have on the Bolshevik Revolution and eventual USSR?

Bolshevism was fairly atheist. Up until Cruschtschow Soviet state "religion" was atheism. Religion was fairly repressed, a lot of monasteries and churches were expropriated. Orthodoxism was one of the main enemies and ideological foes to the Russian Revolution.
