hi! 'Cavemen' entirely predate history - and possibly even the origins of homo sapiens sapiens depending on what is meant - so while it might be worth x-posting to /r/AskAnthropology, be aware that there are no written or oral records from that time.

We have no written records of the time, but we do have tales told in bones. There are multiple examples of archaic Homo sapiens bones that show extensive damage--people were clearly seriously injured, to the point that they could not hunt, maybe blind, maybe lame. Yet many of these bones show extensive healing--these people remained alive a long time after suffering these injuries. It's clear they were being taken care of by people in their tribe. Yet we also have examples like that of Otzi, the hunter-gatherer whose frozen corpse was found in the alps, from 6,000 years ago. He was driven out of his tribe, attacked and killed. So the tribe could save you or kill you.
