The short answer is yes, the US did bring over a number of German technical specialists after the Second World War and some of them were members of the NSDAP under the auspices of Operation Paperclip.
However, there needs to be a distinction between "importing Nazis" and "importing individuals with scientific expertise who happened to be NSDAP members." Paperclip was not designed to bring in the principles of National Socialism into the US, but rather gain access to German technical information and knowledge. The individuals in question were very deeply involved in the workings of Germany's research infrastructure, which in the context of the Third Reich meant involvement with the state. The Third Reich saw German research and scientific development in the applied sciences as a sign of German racial superiority and genius. When it was not hounding out individuals who were political opponents and racial undesirables, the state lavished funding and research grants upon existing institutions. This meant that scientific establishments within Germany, which had already established a world-leading reputation in the early twentieth century, grew ever larger under the Third Reich. For example, German aviation researchers had some 63 wind tunnel complexes available to them within the Reich to develop and test high-speed design. In contrast, the US had only 3 major wind-tunnel complexes and were not as powerful as the German ones. Of course, German science was not omnipotent and there were considerable oversights and underfunding of areas the Third Reich did not deem important. Physics, for example, was at least in the 1930s, not much of an applied science and enjoyed less prestige in the Weimar Republic and Imperial Germany. This was why many German Jewish researchers gravitated towards physics. The academic establishment, which could be quite antisemitic, blocked off advancement into more prestigious scientific fields. The nature of the Third Reich in which access to officials in the NSDAP meant that sometimes funding went into R&D projects that were technological dead ends. Goering believed that the Horton brothers were aeronautical geniuses and lavished funding on their flying wing designs. Although interesting from an experimental standpoint, the Horton Ho-229 was not a very practical aircraft. It had the issues common with flying wing designs that would not be resolved until flight instrumentation would catch up in the 1980s and some other issues unique to the design like placing the pilot between two loud jet engines. As the Horton case exemplifies, access to this expanded scientific establishment was often predicated upon connections to the state and membership in the NSDAP helped in these matters.
The reasons for membership within the party was of course highly variable. But some German researchers and academics joined the NSDAP out of genuine conviction and repackaged their ideas to fit within the new regime. A number of landscape architects and agronomists like Heinrich Wiepking-Jürgensmann and Konrad Meyer would become involved in the SS's plan to remake the East into a verdant garden for Aryan settlers once it had been cleared of racial inferiors. Other academics and scientists joined out of a larger process called by later historians self-coordination in which individuals gradually adjusted preexisting mores to fit within the context of National Socialism because of the state's soft pressure . A number of younger researchers tended to join the party as it greatly improved their chances at achieving their Habilitation (a step higher than PhD which opens up a position in the professorate- German university structure is very complex) as the Nationalsozialistischer Deutscher Dozentenbund (NSDB-National Socialist German Lecturers League) vetted candidates for their position. Diechman's studies of biology have found that NSDAP membership greatly benefited career advancement and crossing this important hurdle in German academia. Still others were ambivalent about joining the NSDAP and would emphasize this ambivalence postwar to contend they were just apolitical scientists who were scientists first, and patriots second. Wernher von Braun famously fit within this category and would swear in an affidavit that he only joined the SS to facilitate his rocket research.
So going back to Paperclip after an unnecessarily long detour into NSDAP membership, the US approached the issue of German scientists from a highly functional approach. Someone like Konrad Meyer was relatively unimportant for Paperclip because his research could not be applied to military uses or other aspects of "high" science like rocketry. The US was primarily interested in research and researchers in fields that it was apparent that Germany was ahead and could be used to enhance American research. Aeronautics and rocketry were some of the main areas in which Germany had advanced knowledge and figures like Alexander Lippisch became important figures in the US aeronautics industry. Some of the ethics of Paperclip were quite dodgy. Kurt Blome was tried at Nuremberg for experiments in biological warfare, but the charges could not be sustained despite some evidence of human experimentation. Blome's Nuremberg interlude meant that he was officially ineligible to emigrate to the United States, so he was instead given a position in the US Army's European Command Intelligence Center and brought over as a consultant to the US's nascent biological warfare program. One side effect of Paperclip's importation of scientists was it perpetuated the self-fashioning of individuals like von Braun that Germans were apolitical and the crimes of National Socialism were the responsibility of Hitler and a few cohorts. This meant there was a relative silence about the crimes committed by the Third Reich in the name of scientific research.
