So I'm currently doing research about immigration laws/reforms during Roman antiquity and I have hit a bit of a roadblock with finding actual laws and reforms since they are all in latin and Im having trouble reading and translating them accurately. My university lib doesn't have a lot of information on the subject except for a few books and journals about the basics of Roman law.
So I have turned to you Reddit, any ideas as to where I might find information about Roman immigration legislation?
There's lots of scholarship on this issue. Start with Sherwin White, The Roman Citizenship if you don't have it yet. Bispham, From Asculum to Actium, is quite a bit newer. And there's tons of stuff (I know because I'm reading all of it right now) on the settlement of the Social War and the enfranchisement of the allies.
I suggest not wasting your time translating Latin. That's been done. Go to the secondary scholarship. That will point you to the primary sources you need and also give you context for your research.
