One thing I've noticed is that the big bands of the late 60s and 1970s such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath etc did not tour in Latin America throughout the height of their popularity.
Were there no fanbases in South and Central America or was it a matter of financial gain? Also, who were some of the earliest bands to tour in the region?
The market was to small, no venues existed that would attract a "world class" rock band and no Latin American concert promoter existed in the sixties and seventies that could entice an A-List rock band to Latin America during that era.
It wasn't until 1985 that Robert Medina changed these parameters. He built Rock City, a 61 acre top notch Rock festival ground, near Rio de Janero, Brazil. He also booked several major bands to a week long festival.
