Robert Knecht's The French Renaissance Court and Renaissance Warrior and Patron: The Reign of Francis I are two of the major works on the French Renaissance court. They are a bit of a slog, but really contextualize court life through their thick description. Kathleen Wellman's recent Queens and Mistresses of Renaissance France might also help as it goes into the gendered nature of the honor culture that permeated court life. The Princely Courts of Europe 1500-1750 edited by John Adamson is a lavishly illustrated and excellently written anthology of the various early modern courts and will help put the French Renaissance court into a fuller perspective.
