The other planets are named after deity figures, and I was just curious about when and where (and why) this particular planet started to become known as 'Earth?' Did other peoples have a different name for it? At what point in history did the understanding of 'planets' change the name (or concept) for where we all live?

Keep in mind that "Earth" is an English word, so pretty much every one who spoke/speaks another language used/uses a different word. There have been other posts on the subject, so check these out to find many examples in other languages, some contemporary, some ancient.
