I don't think there was an actual Jesus, since the writings about him were never from eyewitnesses. Those who cite him are either biased or fake. But, there are records of christians during the first century which make me wonder how the legend of the Christ survived among them. Is this something normal that other myths share?
The consensus within the scholarly and academic community is that Jesus existed. There is pretty much no debate about that
