Of course. I was born in 1986 in Estonia (then behind the iron curtain) and I remember having many books of that time at home, which displayed Soviet and US spacecraft side by side, listing their relevant achievements and explaining what they had done, with pictures.

Space exploration was a big thing in the Soviet Union. It was presented in an idealistic fashion, with only lip service paid to Cold War politics, if even that.

For some reason not a lot of Americans know about major Soviet space achievements, though. Like the first ever Lunar rover or landing a probe on Venus.
