Im mainly interested in how the British went about the process, and information on how long would it take once a service member died and in what format the notification was issued.
A bit more specific but i would similarly like to know the above in contex to those who perished aboard HMS Sheffield.
Secondly this was the period where British soldiers were given the choice of being buried where fallen or back in the UK. So I would like to know how long it would take for the body of a fallen service member to get back to their respective families.

The 23 fallen 3 PARA soldiers were initially buried close to where they fell, i.e. Mount Longdon. Family members who wanted their close ones back to the UK had to fight to have them transfered - several months passed before the transfers were carried out. The delay, although I cannot remember where I read it, had to do with an initial annulation of the choice you refer to - the dead were to remain where they fell.
