I've heard that there were non-francophone groups that participated in this rebellion, and in fact Wikipedia does outline a few Anglphones that were involved as supporters of the rebellion. But as a French-speaker going through the Quebec French schools, there was no mention anywhere of anglophones being involved. I understand this as a means to manipulate history to appeal to a sense of nationalism, but I want the truth.
There were actually two closely related rebellions; the Francophone rebellion under Louis-Joseph Papineau and a parallel movement in Upper Canada led by William Lyon Mackenzie. Both men escaped to the United States, but Mackenzie had much better luck recruiting and organizing there, due to his English-speaking Protestant heritage (and not coincidentally his offer of 400 acres to all volunteers if his government-in-exile took control of Canada, tendered during a hard recession).
There were a handful of anglophones in Papineau's movement, but the vast majority rallied to Mackenzie's standard. Hundreds of Canadians and Americans skirmished with Canadian and British troops for several months, and the crisis threatened war between Britain and the United States.
